Importance Of Counseling Before Marriage

By Jeannie Chapman

Marriage is an institution that every individual looks forward to get into. It is always smooth when couples are in relationships as most of the behaviors are reserved at this time. After marriage, things that you did not see before and those that you probably would not like, start to spring up. For this reason and others, couples may find that they are not prepared to stay together. Quarrels and fights in the family are some of the reasons why couples should seek counseling before and after marriage instead of separating.

While in relationship, a couple should seek the services of a counselor for a number of reasons. For example, the man and the woman in the relationship are of different faith believes. A counselor will help them solve their difference and come up with a way forward of solving their marriage.

Since marriage is a lifelong commitment, it is important to make sure you are getting married for all the right reasons. A marriage counselor takes you through the expectations and responsibilities of the couple. A marriage counselor also gives the couple advice on how to relate with other married couples and the in-laws. This is very vital because it is practically extending your family to accommodate a second set of parents and siblings.

There are cases of couples who have special life circumstances like long distance relationships, psychological disorders and medical concerns. It may be difficult to come to terms with these situations when married and be able to stay committed but with the help of a counselor couples understand the need to hold on and stay happy no matter how they may feel. Other special cases that have to seek psychoanalysis include people with drug abuse problems, self-esteem issues among others.

The most common types of psychoanalysis are premarital, therapy and specialized psychoanalysis. Premarital one can be categorized into two main groups: one which is based on the law and the other one on the faith of the couples. The faith-based one involves the role of religion in the marriage. Law-based psychoanalysis on the other hand deals with the family planning, communication, finances and legal requirements of marriage just to mention a few.

Another very common type of psychoanalysis therapy counseling. This one deals mostly with substance abuse or where one or both of the partners are hooked on drugs. In this kind of psychoanalysis the couple is advised on how to stay clean and support each other through the withdrawal period. It also involves helping the couple handle the emotional stress from previous relationships or abuse.

Specialized psychoanalysis covers a wide range of topic including finances, parenting, career among others. Financial one deals with all matters concerning money that may arise in the marriage. Career psychoanalysis covers everything to do with occupation, especially on how a couple can accommodate each other in marriage despite their occupation. Parenting one deals with bearing and raising children and the family psychoanalysis is meant for couples who have kids from their past relationships.

Counseling has done a tremendous job in saving breaking marriages in the last few years, and even now, it cannot be overlooked. You can seek help from offices permitted to officiate marriages or church on how to undergo this program. At the end of the day, you will be equipped well to start the journey of marriage with a common goal.
